Chicago Printing and Flyers uses a four –color- process while there are many techniques for reproducing images in color, we use high quality equipment for mass reproduction of color images on paper “color printing”. This type of commercial printing is a technique used to print full-color images, such as color photographs and images; it is referred to as four-color-process (cymk) or merely process printing.
What does “14pt” mean?
Chicago Printing and flyers prints on 14pt paper. Points are a measure of paper thickness, equivalent to approximately 1/1000 of an inch. Generally, thin postcards are 8pt to 10pt thickness, medium weight postcards are 11 or 12pt, and thick postcards are 14pt or thicker. All of our standard full color postcards, flyers and business cards are printed on 14pt paper stock. Chicago color printing on14 pt paper is .036 Millimeters it is a sturdy card stock without getting to thick.
What is “Ultra-violet coating or UV coating”?
Chicago Printing and flyers products are all UV coated. This gives the paper product a gloss. You can also request no UV coating.
What is “Resolution”?
The resolution is the number of dots per inch [dpi] or pixels per inch [ppi] that make up the image. It is very important to understand your image needs at least 300 dpi or an image will not print at high quality. Just because an image looks good on your computer screen does not mean it will print in High quality. When you print at Chicago printing and flyers a graphic designer will check your art work after you submit your file. Your file needs to be at least 300dpi for optimum printing results
What is a “Bleed Area”?
Our offset printing is done on small and large sheets and then trimmed to your size. When we trim your printed design it is important to extend colors outside the final trim line an eighth inch. Chicago printing requires this to be done to avoid images getting cut. The Color beyond the trim edge is called the bleed area.
What is a “JPEG: joint photographic experts group”
Chicago printing uses JPEGS \ files for printing. Jpeg was invented by photographers for photo optimization in digital files. Chicago printing uses this format to allow us to lay out your image on a run and send it to print fast.
